United We Bargain, Divided We Beg
In 2017, I started a painting project in support of local Labor Unions, called United We Bargain, Divided We Beg, because Verizon locked out my next door neighbor, for seven weeks over the summer. The artwork is a way for me to show solidarity with the workers. This process led to a solo exhibition at the Commonwealth Museum in Boston. The show contained large-scale Asphaltum on Tyvek group portraits of four Unions: the IBEW Local 2222, the Ironworkers Local 7, the SEIU BJ32, and the BTU. Organized Labor needs and deserves broad endorsement. I want to give faces to people that companies treat as numbers. I am currently working on a second iteration of United We Bargain…for the American Labor Museum in 2019.
